No decision on Lockett retirement yet

Middleweight boxer Gary Lockett admits he has become disillusioned with the sport but has distanced himself from reports in the press that he is set to retire from boxing just yet. Lockett told Setanta Sports News that boxing fans can expect a decision either way this September..

“Someone’s picked up on what I said and it’s been blown out of proportion. What I actually said was ‘I’m considering my options’.

“After a defeat like that [against Kelly Pavlik] it makes you think. After all I’ve been a pro for 12 years.”

Lockett’s career high was a defeat against undisputed middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, a fight which topped the bill in Atlantic City in June.

“I got myself in a position where I was number one contender.

“I’ve really got to consider if I want to go back to fighting non-title fights and British title fights. It’s a lot lower than the highs of the WBC and WBO middleweight title fights.
