Boxing Results from Nairobi, Kenya

By Geoffrey Mpenda @ Ringside: On Saturday July 19 Sparks Pro-Boxing Promotions promoted an action-packed card at the WAB Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, sanctioned by the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission. No titles were at stake, but the entertainment was never the less of high standard..

In the eight-round main event local favourite Anthony Napunyi captured a unanimous decision at super bantamweight over Tanzanian import Anthony Mathias. Napunyi improved to 12-4 (6), and it should be noticed that he lost his first three professional bouts. Mathis is now 21-10 (10).

Unbeaten welterweight hope “Jesse” James Kimori outclassed the durable Ken Oyolo for a unanimous six round decision in a bout contested at super welter. Kimori floored Oyolo twice along the way, but must be satisfied with a clear victory after a good performance. Kimori now 9-0 (5), Oyolo reportedly 7-14-3 (2).

Another fine welterweight prospect also took a good win on the card, as Kennedy Muiruri went to 2-0 (0) with a unanimous verdict over six rounds against former national welterweight champion George Owano, 7-7 (1). Owano stated the favourite against the rookie, but couldn’t follow his pace and was clearly outworked.

At lightweight Ibrahim Odhiambo won his professional debut with a decision after four rounds over Stephen Nyakina, 1-6 (0). Other results from the show: Female super featherweights: Benedetta Kalokki W4 Christine Auma, Heavyweight: Adgiri Idris (Debut) W6 Obadia Mwangi, Female featherweights: Jane Kavulani KO6 Nantongo Mulinde.

Director of Sparks Pro-Boxing Mr. Samwel Karuiki let it be known that the next show is planned for August 23 at the 680 Hotel in Nairobi.
