Murray remains hopeful over Khan fight

Lightweight boxer John Murray is refusing to rule out the possibility of fighting Amir Khan, despite promoter Frank Warren overlooking him for Khans next bout on Saturday 6th September. Murray won his last fight against Lee Meager for the vacant British lightweight title; a fight which he had hoped would give him a shot at Khan..

Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour Murray said:

Amir Khan said if Murray wins this fight [against Meager] well have it on September 6th. I took care of Lee Meager and Im willing to fight. If he wants to meet me at the MEN Arena, Ill see him there.

I think it can still happen. Hes a good fighter. Im a good fighter. Were both young, both ambitious. I think it would be a great fight for the British public.

Frank Warren meanwhile has released a statement making it clear that Murray stands absolutely no chance of fighting Khan in the near future.

John Murray will certainly not be Amir's next opponent for September 6 at the M.E.N Arena.

We are working on Amir's challenger for his Commonwealth title and we will be in a position to announce it shortly.
