Mahir Oral back in action this Saturday

ARENA’s most promising middleweight prospect Mahir Oral will be back in action this Saturday (April 26th) in Trabzon, Turkey, after recovering from numerous hand injuries in the last two years. “In fact, this whole trouble started in 2002 when I broke my hand bone for the first time”, states Oral. “In December 2006 – right before my scheduled clash with Domenico Spada – I broke the same hand again and never totally recovered from that. Even when I fought and beat Spada in March 2007 I still felt the fragile bone..”

Two surgeries later Oral who had been rated within the top 15 by all four sanctioning bodies feels that it’s time to go back to work. “Of course, there is still this fear that my hand could break again.” states Oral who had been stopped from participating in an IBF title eliminator against Fulgencio Zuniga because of his injury earlier this year. “But right now I feel great. The last operation was very important and everything seems to be perfect. I don’t feel any pain and I’m really looking forward to stepping back into the ring.”

This Saturday at the Black Sea “The Lion” faces experienced “El Indio” Joel Sebastian Mayo (40-12-0, 25 kos).

What can his fans expect from him in Turkey?

“I’ll be much better than in my last couple of fights. Mayo better comes to Trabzon well prepared because I’m so fired up that he might get burned!”

And what are Mahir’s goals for the future?

“A shot at the European championship would be good – or maybe Domenico Spada gives me another shot at the WBC international championship. We had a great match one year ago in Hamburg and I would love to strip the belt from him again.”
