Selcuk Aydin headlines in Turkey; Solis on the undercard

ARENA Box-Promotion invades Turkey again! After promoter Ahmet Öner brought professional boxing back to Turkey on June 16th, 2007 Selcuk Aydin will take his “First Step” to the top on April 25th, 2008 in his hometown Trabzon. The “Thunderstorm from the Black Sea” (“Karadeniz Firtinasi”) faces Lucky Lewele from South Africa for the vacant WBC international welterweight championship..

Selcuk has won all of his 14 pro-fights so far including 12 knockouts which earned him the nickname “Mini-Tyson”. Now Aydin is going for his first professional title while his opponent already knows how it feels to have gold around his waist. In March 2007 Lewele had stripped the WBC international champion belt from Alpaslan Agüzüm by an 8th round tko-win in Munich.

“This is a real tough test for Selcuk” states ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner. “After this fight we will know how good he really is. Though Lewele is a very strong opponent I am convinced that Selcuk can beat him clearly and make his way to the top. Our ‘Mini-Tyson’ is one of the most aggressive and powerful fighters in his division.”

While the main event promises to become a classic the undercard for the big show in Trabzon will be packed with action, too. Ahmet Öner will present the fanatic Turkish crowd his Cuban heavyweight sensation Odlanier Solis, 2004 Olympic silver medallist Atagün Yalcinkaya and the unbeaten German prospects Tino Groß and Steffen Kretschmann.

“All of them will face good opponents”, says Öner. “The Turkish fans have been waiting so long to see professional boxing. Now I want to bring them the best possible action.”
