Miranda/Kessler Agree to Fight In May
By Erin McDaniel: According to Dan Rafael from ESPN, former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (39-1, 29 KOs) and the knockout artist Edison Miranda (30-2, 26 KOs) will meet up in a bout slated for May 24th, possibly in Montreal, Canada. Kessler, 29, last fought in November 2007, losing his WBA/WBC super middleweight titles to Joe Calzaghe in a 12-round unanimous decision loss. Since then, there'd been a lot of speculation as to who his next opponent would be. Miranda, 27, had been calling Kessler out in the media for the past month in his efforts to land a fight with him, and it looks as if his efforts have finally paid off for him.

Miranda has had two fights at super middleweight, since moving up shortly after being destroyed by Kelly Pavlik last year in a 7th round TKO on May 19th, 2007. Since then, Miranda has beaten Henry Porras and David Banks, stopping both in impressive fashion. Kessler, however, would be tough opponent for Miranda given his ability to both box and slug. Perhaps Miranda's best - read: only - chance at winning would be by knockout over Kessler.
