Fields Obliterates Willis In 1st Round!

Tye FieldsBy Peter Holland: 6'9" 275 lb, heavyweight Tye Fields (41-1, 37 KOs) chalked up yet another win over a hapless 3rd tier opponent, beating last second substitute Roderick Willis (14-3-1, 8 KOs) in a 1st round TKO tonight at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fields, 33, as usual, came out firing on all cylinders as he simply overwhelmed Willis with punches early in the first round, battering him to the ropes with chopping lefts and right hand combinations. Referee Russell Mora moved in and halted the bout at 1:37 of the 1st. It wasn't pretty, but then again few of Fields' bouts would ever win style points.

Willis, 36, had little problem landing on the few occasions that he attempted to, as he hit Fields with several good left and right hands in the round. However, Fields kept steady pressure on him throughout the round, throwing sloppy windmill punches. Willis backed up to the corner, where Fields unloaded with repeated left hands throwing one after another like he was chopping down a tree. After taking a ton of shots, Willis moved off the ropes and attempted to escape. Fields, though, followed after him tagging him with left hands as he tried to move away. One of the left hand shots drove Willis to the far side of the ring where he bounced off the ropes. The referee Russell Mora then moved in and stopped the bout.

Fields, who up to this point has made a career out of fighting C-level fighters, is perhaps looking toward possibly fighting Hasim Rahman in June. If that were to happen, sadly, it would be a tremendous leap up in competition for the 33 year-old Fields. It would be a very risky bout for Fields, in that his competition thus far in his career has been incredibly mediocre to say the least.
