Sanders to box Jones on ESPN 2 March 28

Salamanca, NY—Welterweight Germaine Sanders, of Chicago, IL, will box unbeaten Mike Jones, of Philadelphia, PA, in the scheduled eight-round co-feature on Friday evening, March 28, at the Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel. The 10-round junior middleweight main event pairs Kassim Ouma, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, against Cornelius “K9” Bundrage, of Detroit, MI.

This marks the first-ever boxing card at the Seneca Alleghany Casino, located at 777 Seneca Allegany Boulevard.

The Ouma-Bundrage and Jones-Sanders fights will be televised live by ESPN 2 as part of its popular Friday Night Fights series. The TV card starts at 9 p.m. while the first of seven live fights begins at 7.45 p.m.

Sanders, whose 27-5 record includes 17 K0s, was training for a potential March 29 fight in Germany when he got the call Monday (March 10) that Gilbert Venegas, of East Moline, IL, Jones’ original foe, was AWOL.

Though he lost a pair of 10-round decisions in his last two fights to world-rated welterweights Jesus Soto-Karass and Shamone Alvarez, Sanders eclipses Jones in experience, having boxed 19 times in fights scheduled for 8, 10 or 12 rounds since turning pro in 1998.

Prior to his fights with Soto-Karass and Alvarez, Sanders had won six in a row, including a 10-round decision over Emmanuel Clottey last year in New York City.

Sanders has been stopped once in 32 fights. That occurred in 2002 when Teddy Reid K0d him in three rounds in Albuquerque, NM.

Jones has knocked out all 12 of his opponents. In his last fight Nov. 9 at the New Alhambra in South Philadelphia, he earned a third-round K0 over former world title challenger Israel “Pito” Cardona, of Hartford, CT.

This will be Jones’ fifth scheduled eight-round fight. He has never gone beyond the fifth round as a pro.
