19.07.04 - This Thursday, July 22nd, the Los Angeles Athletic Club will once again play host to an exciting night of boxing as Thompson Boxing Promotions features "Fight Night", a pompous evening of sheer power and toughness. The four-bout card is made-up by the hardest punching machines in Southern California.

The main event will bring the best out of two dead-even journeyman and former sparring partners as Rigoberto "El Macho" Plascencia (6-5-1, 3 KOs) faces Richard Gonzales (7-7-2, 3 KOs) in a super middleweight eight rounder.

Both competitors know each other well, so well they have the style necessary to make this one a slugfest. Plascencia, proud of his nickname, never shun a challenge and has fought for the California State Title twice against Iswhar Amador, in battles that have been boosted as "Fight of the Year" and were also featured by Thompson Boxing Promotions. Gonzales, on the other hand, relies on ring movement and all his savvy will be tested after he enjoyed a long lay over. Gonzales last fight was against prospect Sergio Mora on November 2002; previously he mixed up with Enrique Ornelas and Ikeke Kingsley, both world title contenders.

On the semi main event, powerful Josesito Lopez (8-1, 5KOs), hailing from Riverside, will have a hard test in front of him when he battles Juan Carlos Martinez, a veteran of 35 fights with an even record. Lopez, a polished boxer and heavy puncher just defeated the resilient Oscar Villa in a six-round battle. Martinez, not faced with Josesito's winning ways, has fought the likes of champions Mike Anchondo and Steve Luevano.

Also on the card will be Jay "Bringing the Heat" Horton, who will be making his professional debut against Phoenix's Joe Leyva (0-1). This heavyweight scrap has the added attraction of featuring Jack Mosley, father and former trainer of "Sugar" Shane Mosley. Horton is Jack's new protégé as he looks to dominate the big boys' division.

Rounding up the card will be Carlos Mainor, also making his pro debut, against Joe De La Cruz (0-1). Both combatants are ready for what should be a toe-to-toe war.

As part of this deluxe boxing night, fans will have the chance to rub shoulders with LA's boxing elite. Future hall of famer Francisco "Panchito" Bojado and past legends such as Genaro Gernandez, Bobby Chacon, Rodolfo Gonzales, Paul Banke, and Rene Arredondo have confirmed their attendance to the festivities.

Only a few tickets remain available for the private event, which is presented to Los Angeles Athletic Club members, but it also allows those diehard fans to be a part of it. Tickets for the show are being sold for $100 ringside, $75 reserved, and $65 reserved balcony, and can be purchased by calling 213-630-5255. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the World Boxing Hall of Fame. The Los Angeles Athletic Club is located on 431 W. Seventh Street, downtown LA, on the corner of 7th and Olive.
