Sinan Samil Sam vs. Matt Skelton for European heavyweight championship

The European Boxing Union (EBU) officially announced that Sinan Samil Sam (29-4-0) and Matt Skelton (21-2-0) will fight for the vacant European heavyweight champion title. Sam already wore the belt from October 2002 until February 2004 when he lost it controversially to Luan Krasniqi..

For Skelton it will be the first shot at the EBU title. The Commonwealth champion drew public attention recently with his point loss against WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev in Düsseldorf in January.

The European championship bout hasn’t been scheduled yet. “But I am sure it will take place within the next two months”, stated ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner.

Before that “The Bull from Bosporus” Sinan Samil Sam who beat Egypt’s Mazur Ali in Istanbul last week will step into the ring to defend his WBC Mediterranean championship. On March 14th Sam faces Ratko Draskovic from Montenegro in Munich in a show that also features former WBC super middleweight champion Markus Beyer and Olympic gold medallist Odlanier Solis.
