Cervantes, 18, a native of Mexico, has an amateur resume that screams "future world champion!" He has won over 160 amateur bouts including Gold Medals at last year's Mexican Olympic Festival and Mexican Pre-Olympic Festival, and the Silver Medal at the 2003 South American Olympic Festival.
"Daniel's power and skills remind me so much of Fernando Vargas when he was starting out," said Vargas' co-manager Rolando Arellano. Arellano also co-manages Cervantes with Vargas and Shelly Finkel. "He has dynamite in both fists. I have no doubt he will be a world champion."
Cervantes, who trains under the tutelage of his father, Fernando, at La Colonia, the same gym Vargas trains, recently finished his first year of college, where he is majoring in computer graphic design.
