Gamboa faces “Lumberjack” Johnnie Edwards (13-1-1, 7 k.o.s) for the NABF super featherweight championship.
Most experts agree that the Olympic gold medallist with the outrageous speed and excellent timing has what it takes to become a fan favourite in the US. Consequentially Gamboa’s third fight in the US will be his first appearance on national TV as main event for ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fight. It is also the first US-show promoted by Ahmet Öner and ARENA Box-Promotion in cooperation with “DeCubas presents”.
Gamboa’s fellow countryman Yan Barthelemy (4-0-0) completes the “Night of the Olympians”.
Ahmet Öner: “This will be a great show with two exceptional talents and Olympic champions on one card! The only way to top it would be by bringing our heavyweight sensation Odlanier Solis to the US and putting him on the same card as Gamboa and Barthelemy – I am sure that we will do that rather sooner than later.”
Tickets for the show are available under 954.491.6265. The official press conference for the “Night of the Olympians” takes place on Monday, February 11th, 2008, at 12 PM at Xtreme Indoor Karting (5300 Powerline Road, Fort Lauderdale).
