Andy Lee to Make Debut on Friday Night Fights
By Neil Dennis: ESPN2's Friday Night Fights will give American boxing fans their first serious look at Irish knockout artist Andy Lee. His opponent will be none other than former "Contender" Brian Vera. Vera, who was last seen beating Max Alexander via unanimous decision on The Contender finale undercard, will step into the ring with Lee at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut on March 21. Vera (15-1, 9KOs) was previously undefeated going into The Contender, that was until Jaidon Codrington knocked him out in the second round of a five round quarterfinal bout..

Irish powerhouse Lee (15-0, 12KOs) is hardly a stranger to fighting in America, with ten of his fights occurring stateside. However, the exposure that will be provided fighting Vera will be the largest so far for the rising middleweight. With trainer Emmanuel Steward grooming Lee for a possible fight with champion Kelly Pavlik in the next year, getting his fighter a good showing will go a long way toward making a case for a title shot.
The undercard is expected to feature fellow undefeated middleweight Aaron Pryor, Jr., son of the former IBF/WBA Light Welterweight champion best known for his two knockout wins over Alexis Arguello.
