Heavyweights collide in Stuttgart

13.07.04 - European heavyweight champion Luan Krasniqi (26-1) defends his title against René Monse (14-1) on July 31 at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart, Germany. The fight headlines a seven-bout all heavyweight card, with the exception of a cruiserweight title bout.

Krasniqi and Monse already fought each other for the EBU crown in January 2002. Then Krasniqi won a 12-round majority decision but had to recover from a knockdown in round two, the only time in his career that he was decked.

Luan Krasniqi lost the European title to Przemyslaw Saleta in July 2002 but regained it in an highly emotional battle against his stable mate Sinan Samil Sam from Turkey in February 2004 with a twelve round decision.

In other featured bouts, unbeaten Alexander Dimitrenko 14-0 will be tested by Ross Puritty 30-17-3, Olympian Ruslan Chagaev 11-0-1 takes on Jose Arimatea Da Silva 25-7, Taras Bidenko 10-1 faces Daniel Frank 13-7-1 and Konstantin Onofrei 16-1 battles Goran Gogic 8-1-2.

Also, Firat Aslan 20-3-1 goes against Lee Osie Manuel 31-4 for the EU cruiserweight belt.
