Four fights were broadcast live and in high quality on the internet on www.boxing.de from 18:30 German time to 20:15 (German/English live commentary: Fabian Weber), another four fights were broadcast live on TV all over Europe by Eurosport from 20:15 to 22:45 (German live commentary: Werner Kastor). It was the third time that the website www.boxing.de and TV channel Eurosport cooperated and complemented one another to an extensive and evening filling professional boxing broadcast.
In the main event on Eurosport Ukrainian Andreas Kotelnik defeated Frenchman Gabriel Mapouka at jr. welterweight and successfully defended his WBA international title. The competitive and entertaining duell went the full distance and was scored 118:112, 116:113 and 117:112 in favor of Kotelnik who improved his record to 23-0 with 10 knockouts. Mapouka dropped to 38-7 with 24 knockouts.
Another meaningful win was scored by heavyweight Ruslan Chagaev who knocked out Sedrick Fields in round two. The talented Russian and the tough American journeyman already fought three months ago in Germany. But their first fight was close and Chagaev wanted to wipe out memories to his unspectacular close decision that he won on February 17 in Lübeck. There was no question that this is exactly what the undefeated Hamburg based heavyweight with the nickname “White Tyson” did when he deeply hurt and knocked down Fields twice in round two until the referee stopped the contest with six seconds left in the round. Chagaev improved to 11-0-1 with nine knockouts. Fields dropped to 21-24-1 (15).
Earlier that evening in a contest that carried nostalgic touch and that was broadcast live on www.boxing.de African-Austrian boxing preacher Biko Botowamungo had to endure a bitter disappointment. The 47 year old heavyweight from Vienna was not able to score a victory in what was supposed to be his last fight as a professional boxer.
Instead Botowamungo lost a controversial decision over ten rounds to Italian Grezi Line and the chance to leave boxing with a victory. But the highly religious fighter won’t regret this last setback too much. Because his main goal and reason for his single comeback was to donate his entire purse for the construction of a Baptist church in Vienna. That’s why, despite of his loss, the mission of the seven time father was successful.
The re-broadcast of the popular and highly frequented live web event can be reviewed in the LIVE section of www.boxing.de. Select ARCHIVE.
During the Olympic summer games Spotlight Boxing will pause. That’s why the next events and the next live broadcasts will be not until fall, the first one being scheduled for September 21.
