Antillon Stops Valdez
22.12.07 - By Jeff Bastasini: Lightweight Urbano Antillon (21-0, 14 KOs) totally annihilated his overmatched opponent Adrian Valdez (18-6-3, 9 KOs) on Friday night, destroying him in the 1st round at the Dickersonís Event Center, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Antillon, considered one of the best lightweight prospects in boxing, knocked Valdez down with the first two punches he threw, a 1-2 combination. Both punches were heavy shots and could be clearly heard around the arena. After getting up, Valdez looked startled, as if he didn't know what had him due to the quickness of the knockdown.

In an effort to try and stay in the fight, Valdez tried to stay on the outside, moving around the ring to avoid Antillon. It didn't work. Antillon, 25, quickly came after Valdez, landing a flurry of shots, ending with two crushing right hands that sent Valdez down to the canvas where referee Rocky Burke moved in and stopped the bout at 1:16 of the 1st round. Valdez was badly hurt after the first right hand, and was in the process of going down but had become stuck on the ropes as he was sliding down, allowing Antillon to blast him with one more fight hand on the way down.
The second right had was even more devastating than the first, and made sure that Valdez wouldn't be getting up from the knockdown. Without a doubt, it was an impressive victory for Antillon, whom is ranked #8 in the World Boxing Council lightweight division, and is clearly on his way up in the rankings.
