Danny Green vs Stipe Drews

The first title defence of WBA light heavyweight world champion Stipe "Spiderman" Drews (32-1, 13 KOs) is coming up this weekend at the Challenge Stadium in Perth /Australia. On Sunday the 16th of December he will face a tough opponent in Down Under when he will try to defend his world title for the first time. His challenger in what is expected to be a difficult fight will be the former WBC super middleweight interim titlist and WBA #8 rated Danny Green (24-3, 22 KOs)..

The only defeat on Drews' impressive fight record ironically took place three years ago in Sydney, Australia against Paul Briggs. The 34 year old local hero Danny Green, who lives and trains in Perth, has moved up to light heavyweight just a year ago and is currently at #8 of the WBA rankings. He is best known for his two dramatic battles against the then-WBC super middleweight world champion Markus Beyer, which he both lost.

"This fight will be a tough job," admitted Drews. "With Danny Green, I have a hard nut to crack. I am doing very well in training camp, my trainer Michael Timm is very happy and we will be ready to take on this tough Australian. By the way, in Australia I have something to make up for so I will put this man in his place and win clearly!"
