It’s unclear whether this was done because of De La Hoya’s desire to get revenge for his recent loss to Mayweather or to see Hatton victorious so that he can fight him in the near future, perhaps next. Maybe a little of both, since De La Hoya wasn’t pleased with Mayweather’s arrogant attitude during the run up to their fight and would like nothing better than to see Mayweather get slapped down.
In a sense, De La Hoya, 34, helped make Mayweather a household name in selecting him as an opponent, and is now working on bringing Mayweather back down to earth, perhaps because Floyd’s ego has sky rocked with his narrow win over De La Hoya and needs to be checked. "Mayweather Junior needs a humbling experience, he's a brat," De La Hoya has said. For that, I applaud him and hope that he continues to assist Hatton with training tips. It's good to see De La Hoya in a role as an adviser, and hope he continues to work with boxers like Hatton.
