Boxing Results: Erdei Decisions Mendoza, Litzau Defeats Ruiz, More!

24.11.07 - By Matthew Hurley: World Boxing Organization light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei, 28-0 with 17 KOs won a split decision over Tito Mendoza, 36-8 with 28 KOs at the Feiberger Arena in Dresden, Germany. Mendoza was able to hurt the champion in the third round but Erdei recovered and pulled the victory out with his superior boxing skills. It was the ninth successful defense for Erdei. The scores were 116-112, 117-111 for Erdei and 117-111 for Mendoza.

Featherweight Jason Litzau, 23-1 with 19 KOs won a unanimous decision over Edel Ruiz, 29-17-4 with 2 KOs over ten rounds. The judge’s scores were 97-93 and 98-92 twice.

Lightweight Fernando Angulo, 20-4 with 12 KOs won a controversial decision over Damian Fuller, 30-4-1 with 14 KOs. The scores were 97-93, 99-91 and 96-94.

Super welterweight Henry Crawford, 17-0-1 with 9 KOs defeated Jose Bermajo by three scores of 80-72.

Welterweight Nelson Linares, 13-0-1 with 7 KOs defeated Jorge Padilla, 7-5-3 by scores of 80-71 twice and 79-72.

Heavweight Evan Quin, 15-2 with 14 KOs knocked out Victor Barragan, 8-3 with 2 KOs in the first round.

Cintron Breaks Right Hand.

In other boxing news it was confirmed that International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Kermit Cintron broke his right hand during his title defense against Jesse Feliciano. Cintron scored a tenth round stoppage in a rousing battle on the Vargas – Mayorga undercard. Cintron says that he injured the hand with the very first punch he landed. The injury may cause a postponement of the champion’s scheduled unification bout with World Boxing Organization champion Paul Williams on February 2nd.
