Jantuah and Diaz draw – IBF I/C Middleweight Title remains vacant
In the main event of Friday night’s show in San Sebastian, Spain, middleweight veteran Kofi Jantuah (31-3-0) and local hero Ruben Diaz (12-1-1) came to a draw after 12 close rounds in a fight for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Championship. It was Jantuah’s first fight after signing with Hamburg based arena Box-Promotion. The 33-year-old Ghanaian tried to take the “Bull from Pamplona” by the horns but Diaz proofed to be a tough contender..
arena-CEO Ahmet Öner: “Diaz showed big heart and a great fight. Especially as it was only his 15th pro-fight. A draw always bawls for a re-match. Maybe we can have it in Germany.”
On the undercard Turkish welterweight prospect Selcuk Aydin scored his 11th win in his 11th pro-fight (10 kos). “Mini-Tyson” once more lived up to his name by tko-ing Sasha Shnip from Belarus in round 1.
Öner: “Selcuk got what it takes to become a national hero in Turkey. Again he proofed his enormous talent and especially his killer instict. He will be back in action at our next show on December 23rd in Halle – and maybe it will already be for his first title.”
Bantamweight Derya Torun remained unbeaten as well. arena’s “First Lady” clearly decisioned Nataliya Bermas from Ukraine after 6 rounds scoring her 7th consecutive win. The same counts for heavyweight Yakub Saglam who knocked out Ukrainian Valery Semishkur in the 1st.
