23.11.07 - By Jeff Bastasini: Former International Boxing Federation light middleweight champion Roman Karmazin (36-2-1. 23 KOs) made easy work of former World Boxing light middleweight champion Alejandro “Terra” Garcia (25-3, 23 KOs), knocking him out in the third round tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Karmazin, 34, ranked # 4 in the IBF, stopped Garcia, ranked # 11 in the WBA, with a series of brutal hooks to the head in round four. The referee Raul Caiz moved in and halted the bout at 1:24 of the fourth round..

roman karmazinKarmazin started out strong in the first round, winging powerful body shots and hooks to the head. Shortly thereafter, Karmazin dropped Garcia with a brutal body shot. Garcia responded with a few shots of his own but it was Karmazin who finished the round firmly in control.

In the 2nd round, Karmazin continued landing powerful hooks which backed Garcia up. Both fighters traded shots during the last minute of the round, though Karmzin’s shots were the harder and more effective.

In the 3rd round, Karmazin came out firing hard shots at the start, stunning Garcia. Seeing that Garcia was hurt, Karmazin landed a perfect combination, dropping Garcia to the canvas. Referee Raul Caiz moved in and counted out Garcia, who was unable to get to his feet.

Karmazin previously lost his IBF light middleweight title to Cory Spinks by majority decision in July 2006, a bout in which Karmazin appeared to win with at least two rounds to spare. The loss was the second fight in which Karmazin had lost by questionable decision. The first occurring in July 2002 to Javier Castillejo, in which Karmazin dominated the fight, but lost what appeared to be a hometown decision to Castillejo.
