16.10.07 - By Brett Mauren: It was announced today by the World Boxing Council that Oleg Maskaev and Samuel Peter will get the opportunity to settle some unfinished business, or un-started business for that matter.
Barring another roadblock Peter will again defend his title at Madison Square Garden against Maskaev on February 8, 2008. The fight will provide Peter with the chance to legitimize his championship status, and Maskaev to set up a bout with his original target in Vitali Klitschko. The announcement will certainly be less than pleasing to Jameel McCline who last week demanded a rematch with Peter, whom he knocked down three times en route to a loss on October 6.
Maskaev-Peter will be promoted by Don King who staked an offer of over $3,000,000. It was a bout that was on life support for several months due to Maskaev’s desire to defend against Klitschko, and then was scrapped due to a Maskaev injury, and will now finally go down at boxing’s mecca Madison Square Garden.
