Ruiz, ranked # 3 in the World Boxing Association, came out strong in the first round throwing left and right hooks to the body and head, and wicked uppercuts. Ruiz looked nothing like his former self, as he seldom clinched at all, instead focusing on pure slugging for the entire round.
Around midpoint of the round, Ruiz landed two chopping right hands that knocked Tisdale to the canvas. After getting up, Tisdale was immediately on the defense as Ruiz continued to pour on hooks and uppercuts without stop. Just before the close of the round, Ruiz knocked Tisdale down again with a left-right, followed by another right hand. Again, Tisdale made it up before the ten count.
In the 2nd round, Ruiz landed several effective body shots at the start of the round which seemed to sap the energy out of the 38-year old Tisdale's aging body. Seconds later, Ruiz landed a powerful right hand that landed cleanly, and immediately followed with a left hook that dropped Tisdale for the final time. Though Tisdale made it up, the referee decided he'd had enough and stopped the massacre at 0:45 of the 2nd.
Overall, Ruiz looked very impressive showing good hooks, effective movement, uppercuts and most importantly, very little clinching.
