Williamson-Mercer Cancelled

04.06.04 - The proposed bout between DaVarryl 'Touch of Sleep' Williamson and 'Merciless' Ray Mercer has been cancelled. While Williamson is available and ready to fight on Tuesday night, no suitable opponent could be found on just four days notice and it was determined not to proceed with the card. With Mercer's recent announcement that he has retired from the sport of boxing, the card was comprimised.

"Obviously, I am disappointed, I've been training and I wanted to fight on Tuesday, but I wanted to fight Ray Mercer and was not willing to accept a lesser opponent, and I refuse to fight, just for the sake of fighting." said a disappointed Williamson. "Hopefully something can be worked out, and I can still fight sometime in the month of June, otherwise I'm hoping for something in July."
