Ian Gardner Battles Perez for WBC Intercontinental Title in Boston

31.05.04 - Cappiello Promotions has anounced that The Roxy in Boston will be the site for the 10 round WBC Intercontinental Middleweight Title fight between Ian "The Cobra" Gardner 15-1, 7 ko's, and Patrick "La Sasa" Perez 25-4, 14 ko's.

"We were set to fight Chad Dawson for the WBC Youth title but once again Ian's fight got scratched at the last minute," said promoter Richie Cappiello referring to Dawson's alleged failure of a drug test that led to his suspension and hence the cancellation of the May 14th bout.

Gardner has won 13 fights in a row and is excited to be headlining Cappiello's Fight Night USA boxing series that is televised by CN8. "My main goal right now is to get someone, anyone, in the ring," said a noticeably disappointed Gardner. "At this point I will feel relieved just to hear the opening bell ring." Gardner has had three fights in a row fall out for various reasons.
In Perez, he is fighting a solid veteran who has won 20 of his last 22 fights. Perez, who is from Indianapolis, IN, knows he can secure another big fight if he is able to beat Gardner.

The undercard features the long awaited pro debut of highly regarded amateur Nick Morganelli as well as the following bouts. Roy Payne vs TBA Chris McInerny vs TBA Eddie Bishop vs TBA Billy Mofford vs TBA Tyrone Smith vs TBA Mike Culbert vs Mike Corleone
