Quillin Destroys Corral In 1st Round KO!

peter quillin20.08.07 - By Gary Jones: Middleweight prospect Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (14-0, 12 KOs) made short work of Humberto Corral (10-6, 7 KOs), knocking him out at 1:38 of the 1st round on Saturday night at the South Town Exhibition Center, in Sandy, Utah. Quillin, 24, considered one of the best prospects in the middleweight division and a rising star, nailed Corral with a right hook and left upper cut that sent him to the canvas in the 1st. Corral attempted to get up but was badly hurt and quickly counted out by referee Lynn Moore.

Quillin, who's father is originally from Cuba, has now knocked out nine out of his last ten opponents dating back to June 2006. Quillin prefers to score 1st round knockouts, said afterwards, "I like to see if you're man enough, and take what I'm giving out in the first round."

At the start of the fight, Quillin immediately came right at Corral, a powerful left hook to the body, followed by two rights and left hand that sent Corral backwards towards the ropes. Quillin quickly pursued him and landed a hard four punch combination punctuated by a right upper cut that snapped Corral's head backwards from the force. Corral stepped back and got caught with another huge right hand from Quillin. Incredibly, Corral remained standing after taking the shot, and instinctively grabbed onto Quillin to prevent him from tagging him again.

After the referee separated the two, Quillin landed a long arcing right hand that landed to the back of Corral's head, driving him into the ropes. From there, Corral escaped along the ropes and circled the ring, throwing several weak shots meant more to fend off Quillin than to do any damage. Shortly after, Quillin, again, cornered him on the ropes and landed a right hand, left upper cut that sent corrals down to the canvas. Corral, now badly hurt, tried to get up at the count of nine, but was unable to push himself up from the canvas to continue.
