08.11.03 - Promoter Chris A. Webb/Straight Out Promotions has signed super middleweight "Slick" Willie Stewart to a promotional contract. Arnie Rosenthal, who is Stewart's manager, said today, "We're happy to be working with Chris, who is one of boxing's up-and-coming promoters. We think Willie is ready for a world title opportunity and we're looking to make that happen as soon as possible."

Chris said, "Willie is a talented contender who has the potential to become super middleweight world champion. We think he's going to be very successful."

At the age of 32, Willie is a 5 ˝ year pro. He spent four years in the U.S. Marines and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He plans to graduate in December from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with a degree in social work.

Regarding signing with Straight Out Promotions, he said, "I've been training hard and waiting for an opportunity for me to shine, show off my skills. I feel like I'm one of the best super middleweights. This is something that I've been looking forward to."

Regarding his nickname, he said, "Different people would call me 'Slick' because of my style. Montell Griffin used to always call me that. It just kind of stuck."
