Baldomir/Forrest Weigh-In at 154 Pounds

TACOMA, Wash. (July 27, 2007) – Former World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir weighed-in at an even 154 pounds Friday, the day before he meets Vernon Forrest in a 12-round WBC super welterweight championship bout. Forrest also weighed-in at 154 pounds. “I didn’t have any issues with my weight since I spent more than three months in San Diego training for this fight,” said Baldomir, who has been followed by five members of the Argentine media along with a fully staffed documentary television crew since he touched down in Tacoma, Wash. four days ago..

“That was the last step that I needed to pass before I could step in the ring against Forrest. I had no doubts I would make the weight.”

Baldomir, who is promoted by San Diego-based Sycuan Ringside Promotions, has only one defeat since 1998 and that was against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. during November 2006.

The fight will take place at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma and broadcast on HBO Boxing After Dark, beginning at 10:15 P.M. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

The championship fight comes at a much needed time for the boxing-starved Pacific Northwest. The last title fight in Washington was April 11, 1988, when Greg Haugen successfully defended his IBF lightweight title against Miguel Santana.
