20.07.07 - By Chris Williams: Middleweight Matthew Macklin (18-2, 14 KOs) destroyed Ukrainian Anatoliy Udalov (9-3, 2 KOs) in the 1st round tonight at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Macklin, 25, making his first bout at middleweight, after having been knocked out by British junior middleweight champion Jamie Moore in September 2006, nailed Udalov with a scorching right hand early in the 1st round, sending him to the canvas. Udalov, badly hurt, go to his knees but was counted out there by referee Terry O’Conner..

matthew macklinMacklin showed excellent ring movement and bounce in his step as the fight got underway, moving in and out, and landing lunging left uppercuts and jabs to the midsection of Udalov.

For the most part, Udalov circled the ring constantly, trying helplessly to stay out of Macklin’s power range. Udalov, with his back to the ropes, threw a slow left jab, which Macklin skillfully ducked under, while simultaneously firing off a crushing right hand that flattened Udalov, sending him to the canvas.
