Carlos Baldomir makes WBC Seven Day Weight for Showdown with Vernon Forrest

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 20, 2007) - Former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir weighed 159.6 pounds Friday for his WBC-mandated weigh-in seven days prior to meeting another ex-WBC 147-pound champ, Vernon Forrest, July 28 in Tacoma, Wash., at the Emerald Queen Casino for the vacant WBC super welterweight title.

The weigh-in took place at the Sycuan Ringside Promotions Gym, a state-of-the-art boxing facility in El Cajon, Calif., where Baldomir has been conducting training camp. WBC vice president Mauricio Suliman presided over the weigh-in.

“I feel better than I did one week before I fought Mayweather Jr.,” Baldomir said. “I had no problems making this weight.”

Baldomir, who is promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, has a record of 43-10-6 with 13 knockouts.

He won the WBC welterweight championship during January of 2006 by decisioning Zab Judah in New York City. Baldomir then defended successfully by stopping Arturo Gatti during July of 2006 in Atlantic City, N.J., before being dethroned by undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. during November of 2006 in Las Vegas.

HBO's late-night boxing series heats up with an exciting junior middleweight bout when HBO Boxing After Dark: Vernon Forrest vs. Carlos Baldomir is presented Saturday, July 28 at 10:15 PM (ET/PT) from the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash., exclusively on HBO.
