Pittman Dominates Gonzales

13.07.07 - By Tony Nobbs: Unbeaten Australian Jamie “Mr business” Pittman improved to 14-0, 6 KO's) by dominating Filipino veteran Nonoy Gonzales (22-20-2,12 KO's) to take the WBA-PABA and vacant WBO Asia Pacific middleweight boxing titles last night at the Crowne Plaza in Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast.

In what the 25 year old, 6'1, southpaw Pittman, the captain of the Australian Olympic boxing team in Athens, described as his finest performance as a professional, he scored three knockdowns (nothing serious) and never looked like losing as he used brilliant combination punching and fast foot work to keep the rushing Gonzales missing him like he might miss Manila.

The decision was a shut out with scores of 120-105, 120-105 and 120-101!

Gonzales, much better than his record shows took the WBA -PABA belt back in April by stopping Gavin Top, who fought Felix Sturm last year. He went in predicting a knockout. Pittman, however, in his first fight at 160 pounds, had only one thing in mind. The “W”!

“I only wanted to win. If the knockout came , it would have been good but I just concentrated on wracking up the points. I came into the ring at 82 kg. I'm going to be a very big middleweight. I made the weight comfortably, I'd been on weight after training, I felt super fit. I have to say that sparring Sakio Bika and Paul Briggs, going twelve rounds with those guys definitely helped me in my preparation” said the Dean Robinson trained “Pitty”, a former Australian and WBF world champ at 168 pounds.

Undercard action, Australian cruiserweight champ Daniel Ammann won a six round UD over Queenslander James Chan (#8 Aust), unbeaten prospect Kerry Foley from Sydney knocked out local Benny Fedilika in round two, light heavyweights and Australian lightweight champ and Melbourne 2006 C/Wealth Games bronze medalist Lenny Zappavigna scored a first round KO of Jun Geraldino, a Sydney based Filipino, (3 knock down rule) welterweights.

Promoter: Dean Singleton (DSP Boxing) and Jamie Myer.
