08.07.07 - By Scott Frake: Unbeaten Irish middleweight Andy Lee (10-0, 7 KOs) stopped his substitute opponent Thomas Hengstberger (12-5-2, 3 KOs) in the 2nd round of their scheduled 8-round bout on Saturday night in Cologne, Germany. Lee, 23, fighting on the undercard of Lamon Brewster-Wladimir Klitschko, showed blazing hand speed earlier on, knocking Hengstberger down with a straight left hand in the first round. From there, Lee appeared to toy with Hengstberger, who looked completely overwhelmed by the quicker Lee, and had difficulty landing any punches of his own.

In the second round, Lee continued blasting Hengstberger with left hand leads, and hooking him with his right hand as would attempt to move in closer. Finally, with a little more than a minute to go in the round, Lee appeared to grow bored with Hengstberger, and then moved in and landed a blur of combinations to the head, sending Hengsterberger down to the canvas for the final time, where he laid badly hurt as the referee counted him out.
With this win, Lee moves to 10-0, and moves forward in his progress under trainer Emanuel Steward. At this point, there’s no word as to whom Lee will be fighting next, but he clearly appears to be more than ready to step it up against better fighters.
