Clinton Woods-Julio Gonzalez II - Not Happening on June 23rd - Yet Another Fight Postponed
26.05.07 - By James Slater: Right about now, we in Britain should be watching the Matt Skelton vs. Michael Sprott heavyweight rumble. Unfortunately, due to the leg injury sustained by the man who so impressively KO’d Audley “A-Force” Harrison in his last performance, there is no heavyweight showdown in the U.K tonight. Also, adding to the disappointment regarding British fighters, news has just broken that Clinton Woods’ rematch with the teak-tough Julio Gonzalez - originally scheduled as chief support to the Ricky Hatton-Jorge Luis Castillo fight in Las Vegas in June - has been set back too.

Another injury, this one to IBF champ Clinton’s oft-troublesome elbow, is the reason. Talk about bad luck. Not only for the two fighters, but to the British fans. In fact to any fan, wherever they are from.
For both fights would more than likely have been good ones. Skelton, for one, was looking forward to scoring a serious career moving victory. Now he will have to wait. And Sprott, too, will be badly upset. Looking to both build on the Harrison KO and earn himself a crack at a major title, the affable thirty-two year old will now have to put such plans on hold. It certainly does seem as though there are more postponements of boxing matches than there were in years gone by. And due to this latest one, Clinton Woods, who was excitedly looking forward to his Vegas debut, must now sit in idleness for an as yet undetermined period of time.
The months of May and June will certainly not be remembered as friendly ones for British boxing, that much is certain. Let’s just hope that both fights come off as planned soon. Because let’s face it, time is ticking for all four fighters involved.
