Harrison Dominates Francis To Retain Title

08.05.04 - By Elliot Worsell: Much fancied WBF heavyweight champion Audley ‘A-Force’ Harrison retained his spurious title strap this evening in Bristol with a dominant twelve round points victory over former British champion Julius Francis. 39-year-old Francis, brought in as a late replacement for the injured Nicolay Popov, showed his renowned courage and bravery throughout the contest, but Harrison’s superior boxing ability, ring generalship, and crisp final round knockdown decisively secured a successful first defence of his newly acquired title. Harrison cruised through the finishing line by scores of 119-109, 119-108, 119-109 and remained very much on course of his next scheduled outing on June 19.

After the bout Harrison informed viewers of BBC television that a potential British title scrap with reigning champion Matt Skelton could come to fruition, and that ongoing talks had been held with Sports Network supremo Frank Warren in regards to the much anticipated match-up. Francis, who’s seen most contenders and pretenders throughout his long, hard, distinguished career, shrugged off the last round knockdown and was somewhat dismissive of Harrison’s claim to be the heir apparent to retired world heavyweight kingpin Lennox Lewis.
