In winning the fight fight, Jirov kept alive his chances of a rematch with James Toney. Meanwhile, Toney has a bout coming up with Heavyweight Jameel McCline in February. If Toney is able to get by McCline, then he hopes to fight either Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr. or one of the Klitschko brothers. All of those fights are long shots of ever happening, so there’s a good possibility Jirov may get a second shot at Toney in 2004.
Jirov boxed from the outside in the first several rounds, but thereafter, he begin landing a ferocious body attack against Kiwanuka. Late in the 6th round, Jirov unleashed a storm of body shots, which had Kiwanuka reeling against ropes. The referee mercifully stopped the fight at the beginning for the 7th round
