Jamie Moore Wins, Robinson And Edwards Draw

14.04.07 - Jamie Moore kept his world ambitions on track when scoring a unanimous victory over Sebastian Andres Lujan at Altrincham Leisure Centre last night. Referee Phil Edwards judged Moore to have won by 119 to 110. Much had been expected of Lujan, 27, who had twice fought for a world title; the most recent a points loss to Sergiy Dzinziruk in a challenge for the WBO light middleweight title..

“Lujan is a perfect opponent for me,” Moore said before the fight. “It gives me an opportunity to show what I can do in the ring and he is a good yardstick for my future as he has fought at such a high level.”

Moore did not look to be troubled by Lujan last night as both fighters started cautiously. The tempo was raised in the middle bouts with Moore first to attack in the fourth round and then Lujan attempting to raise the stakes in the seventh.

Moore boxed steadily throughout and gradually built a point’s advantage that Lujan was unable to breach.

Dale Robinson drew with Chris Edwards in the evening’s joint top-of-the-card bout to decide the British and Commonwealth flyweight titles.

The pair had met in November when Edwards caused an upset by stopping Robinson in the eighth round. On this occasion it was Edwards, who had taken time off work to prepare for this, his biggest career fight, that made the more energetic start and attempted to become the first Stoke-on-Trent boxer to win a British title for over 80 years.

Both men were cut within the first six rounds and the ringside doctor twice intervened to enable the fight to continue. The pair remained evenly matched throughout as the 113-115; 115-113; 114-114 scoreline reflected.
