"Wald Was Right, Manfredo is No Lacy. Lacy Went 12 Rounds Against Calzaghe, Unlike The Three Manfredo Almost Lasted! Gary Shaw

SPRINGFIELD, MO (April 7, 2007) -- From ringside at The Shrine Mosque in Springfield, MO, where he was promoting Diego Corrales' super welterweight debut, against Joshua Clottey, Gary Shaw commented on super middleweight boxing champion Joe Calzaghe's third-round TKO victory over Peter Manfredo, Jr., the first alumnus from "The Contender" to challenge for a world title.

"Throughout this promotion, all I have heard from Jeff Wald, an executive producer of 'The Contender,' is that Peter Manfredo, Jr. is no Jeff Lacy. Well tonight, Mr. Wald was proven right. Lacy went the distance against Calzaghe when they fought last year, which is nine rounds more than Manfredo went tonight! Mr. Wald now know that when reality hits, it hits HARD!

"As for Joe Calzaghe, I congratulate him on his historic 20th title defense and applaud his desire to come to America for the big fights. Joe, after Anthony Hanshaw knocks out Roy Jones on the June 9 show Roy is promoting, Anthony will be ready to challenge you in your American debut! And remember, undefeated IBF/IBO flyweight boxing champion Vic Darchinyan is ready willing and able to fight anyone."
