Klitschko’s Quick Work in Germany

10.03.07 - By Sean Ocampo: What happens when you get hit by a steel hammer? Just ask latest Wladimir Klitschko knockout victim Ray Austin about that devastating experience. Their IBF/IBO Heavyweight Championship affair just ended in two rounds when IBF/IBO Champion Wladimir "Dr. Steel Hammer" Klitschko flattened Ray Austin with four consecutive powerful left hooks to the head in front of a massive German crowd in Mannheim, Germany. The win marked Klitschko's second successful defense of his IBF/IBO titles after winning it from Chris Byrd last year..

The main man of the heavyweight division didn't unleash his trademark straight right hand to knockout his opponent but rather unleashing a new weapon which is the left hook.

Klitschko showed patience in throwing his punches and was carefully studying Austin during the first round. It was slow paced first round with Klitschko slightly outlanding Austin with good left jabs. During the second, Klitschko was still stalking Austin and throwing jabs occasionally. When he cornered Austin in to the ropes and unleashed a left hook that staggered the challenger and threw three more left hooks that completely flattened Austin.

Austin was still wobbly when he got up at 9 and that prompted referee Eddie Cotton to call a halt to the fight. The fight was stopped at 1 minute and 27 seconds of the second round.

Klitschko later said that Austin was slower than his sparring partners. According to Klitschko, he took this fight because Austin was his mandatory challenger.

Wladimir Klitschko is looking to unify heavyweight world titles along side with brother Vitali, who is making a comeback after injuring his knee two years ago. According to Wladimir, it is the Klitschkos dream to dominate the heavyweight division and own respective world titles.
