HBO Boxing: "Countdown to Barrera vs Marquez" after Klitschko vs Austin

06.03.07 - HBO Sports is presenting a thirty- minute special analyzing the upcoming HBO Pay-Per-View super featherweight championship between Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez. The highly anticipated bout is set for Saturday, March 17 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. The fight is an intriguing match-up between two of the elite fighters in the 130-pound division, with the champion Barrera and the very dangerous Marquez colliding in the ring..

The special "COUNTDOWN TO BARRERA-MARQUEZ, " which will feature fighter profiles, expert analysis and forecasts for the showdown in Las Vegas, will premiere on Saturday, March 10 immediately after the HBO World Championship Boxing telecast (Wladimir Klitschko vs. Ray Austin) that airs live at 4:45 p.m. ET/ 1:45 p.m. PT and again at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Destined for the Hall of Fame, Barrera brings a record of 63-4, 42 KOs into the showdown with Marquez, who sports a prolific mark of 46-3-1, 35 KOs in his polished career.

The main HBO service will also air the special on Tuesday, March 13 at 11:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 15 at 10:30 p.m. Both times are ET/PT.

The countdown special will also be available to HBO ON DEMAND subscribers 24 hours a day from Monday, March 12 thru Monday, March 26.

Two heavyweights add up to an eventful day of action when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO VS. RAY AUSTIN is seen from Mannheim, Germany at a special time on SATURDAY, MARCH 10. The title fight will be available in HDTV, as well as closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

Wladimir Klitschko (47-3, 42 KOs), from Kiev, Ukraine, goes up against Cleveland’s Ray Austin (24-3-4, 16 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round heavyweight championship bout, presented live at 4:45 p.m. (ET)/1:45 p.m. (PT) and replayed again at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Klitschko, considered by many the standout among the current heavyweight champions, defends his title for the second time in his return to his adopted nation of Germany. Austin, a nine-year boxing veteran who has not lost a fight in five years, looks to upset the champ and bring the title back to America. Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Lennox Lewis will call all the action ringside from the S.A.P. Arena in Manheim, Germany.

Immediately after the Klitschko-Austin showdown airings on March 10, HBO will present the half-hour boxing documentary-style preview special “COUNTDOWN TO BARRERA-MARQUEZ,” which previews the upcoming March 17 HBO Pay-Per-View showdown between the two super featherweights in Las Vegas.
