Kevin Mitchell Up For Pie And Bash

30.04.07 – Mashing-up top Russian Alexander Hrulev will bring super-featherweight hotshot Kevin Mitchell closer to starting off his Pie and Mash empire! The Dagenham Destroyer, who holds Commonwealth title, will challenge for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental on Saturday 26th May at the ExCeL London as chief support on the undercard of the big rematch between Michael Sprott and Matt Skelton..

Mitchell, 23, has smashed his way to an unbeaten 23 fight record with 15 knockouts and with a win over tough Hrulev he aims to open his first Pie and Mash shop in the East End.

“A lot of fighters want flash cars and big houses which is nice for now but I’m thinking about what I’m going to do after boxing and I reckon I could make it as pie and mash boss,” Said Mitchell.

“Once I’ve got through Hrulev I’m looking at opening up a pie and mash shop which has been a dream of mine for a long time now and hopefully in a few years time I will have a whole chain of them. I’ve even got the name sorted for the shops: Pie and Bash! You won’t catch me behind the counter though; I’ll get the old dear and my missus to run it for me because I’ll be useless dishing up behind a counter!”

“I spend a lot of time in our local shop which is legendary in London and is owned by a good mate Perry Horton who’s been around for years. I don’t see the point of all these energy drinks and protein shakes you just need some good solid grub to fuel you. Right through the amateurs and until now as a pro I’ve eaten the stuff by the bucket load and it’s done me fine.”

At the top of Mitchell’s menu is big rival Amir Khan and the two are on a collision course in the near future.

He continued, “A few extra plates of pie and mash and I’ll gladly meet Khan up at lightweight because we have got business to settle,”

“He’s going about shouting his mouth off that he would beat me well I’m going to be the one to close it for him. It’s a massive fight for British boxing and I would fight him tomorrow if the opportunity came up but down the line if we both keep our unbeaten records and if we have world titles as well it would be absolutely huge. Either way tomorrow or a few years down the line he’s going to get from me – painfully.”

First, Mitchell has to deal with Hrulev who will provide a tough test for the youngster.

He added, “These Russian’s are tough nuts to crack. I’ve fought a couple of them in my career and they are hard as nails. They come over here with very little to lose and give it there all. I’m not expecting an easy night and will have to dig deep but I love getting into a tear-up and so do the fans which is why they love watching me fight.”
