Olvera Meets Ramirez On Sept. 9

31.08.05 – World-ranked and former World Boxing Council Fecarbox lightweight champion Francisco Javier Olvera of Mexico City faces Carlos Ramirez of Monterrey, Mexico, in the 10-round main event on the nationally and internationally televised “Guilty Fight Night” card presented by Guilty Boxing Friday, Sept. 9, at El Foro in Tijuana..

Olvera has a record of 14-1 with 12 knockouts while Ramirez has a mark of 20-8 with 14 knockouts.

Olvera, ranked No. 37 by the WBC, won that organization’s Fecarbox championship June 9 of last year in Polanco, Mexico, with a first-round knockout of Ramon Valles.

Olvera has won seven straight, including all four this year, and scored knockouts in nine of his past 10 victories. His most recent outing was June 3 in Torreon, Mexico, when he took a 10-round unanimous decision over Javier Gallegos. Before that on a Guilty Boxing card April 15 in Tijuana he stopped Antonio Cervantes in the 10th round.

The 29-year-old Ramirez was the Texas super lightweight champion.

Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are seen domestically on America One, Comcast Sports Chicago, DirecTV, Dish Network and The Urban Network; in Europe, Africa and middle eastern countries on Fox Sports International; in Europe and Africa on BEN Television; in the Caribbean on WCVI Super Station; and in Japan.

This is another in the ongoing series of “Guilty Fight Night” cards to be held in Tijuana. The innovative Guilty Boxing series was launched during May, 2004, and has presented cards in Las Vegas, California, Arizona and Connecticut as well as Tijuana.

Six-round fights on the nine-bout Guilty Boxing card include: super welterweight Octavio Castro of Guyamas, Mexico, (5-0, 3 KOs) against Jesus Flores of Tijuana (3-1, 2 KOs); welterweight Ivan Alvarez of Mexicali, Mexico, (4-0, 4 KOs) against an opponent to be determined; lightweight Jesus Gonzalez of Tijuana (7-1, 6 KOs) against Miguel Angel Galindo of Mexico City (5-12, 3 KOs); lightweight Gregorio Cortez of Mazatlan, Mexico, (1-0, 1 KO) against Refugio Contreras of Tijuana (1-1-2, 1 KO); bantamweight Osvaldo Juarez of Mexico City (10-2, 8 KOs) against Giovanny Urbina of Cautitlan, Mexico, (5-9, 1 KO); bantamweight Daniel Gonzalez of Guyamas (2-1, 1 KO) against an opponent to be determined; and super flyweight Jesus Vasquez of Culiacan, Mexico, (9-1, 8 KOs) against an opponent to be determined.

The four-round bout on the Guilty Boxing card is flyweight Joaquin Anaya of Mazatlan (1-0, 0 KOs) against an opponent to be determined.

The Guilty Boxing card starts at 7 p.m. (Pacific) with gates to El Foro opening at 6.

Commentators for Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are “The Colonel” Bob Sheridan and Benny Ricardo. Sheridan, a Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, has worked almost 800 world championship bouts on six continents during a career that has spanned more than five decades. Ricardo, for 11 years a place kicker on four NFL teams, also is a veteran announcer and has covered the biggest events in the sports world, ranging from Super Bowls to World Cups.
