Alexander Dimitrenko vs. Ross Puritty in Riesa

10.21.04 – “Klitschko Shrek” Ross Puritty is currently making his way to Germany. On November 6 the experienced and powerful American contender will fight 22-year-old Universum prospect Alexander Dimitrenko at erdgas arena of Riesa. Ross Puritty, now 37 years old and with a record of 30-17-3 (27), was the first man to defeat Wladimir Klitschko, in 1998 a young and promising up and comer.

Three years later Puritty lost to older brother Vitali Klitschko, currently the reigning WBC world champion.

During the fifteen years of his pro career Puritty fought against five former or future world champions and against many top-10 contenders. Several times he managed to upset a favorite.

“I’m sure Sascha is ready for this kind of test”, coach Fritz Sdunek said. “Now he must display his entire potential. Sascha can move very well, has quick reflexes and a very hard punch.”

Alexander Dimitrenko, an intelligent Hamburg based student with a Russian and an Ukrainian passport, very much wanted to face Puritty as stepping stone. The contest had been postponed twice but is now again set for November 6.

“It’s important that I’m able to handle a man like Puritty”, the 6-foot-7 Dimitrenko said. “I want to earn the chance for a world title shot, like the Klitschko brothers did before me.”

„On a different occasion this fight could be the main event”, Jean-Marcel Nartz of Universum Box-Promotion said.

“But in Riesa we already have several title fights, among others the WBO interim world championship between Mario Veit and Charles Brewer. I could imagine from the seven fights on that card one or more ending with an unexpected result. First of all I expect top performances from the three American fighters – Ross Puritty, Charles Brewer and Jackie Chavez, the title challenger of Silke Weickenmeier at jr. featherweight. ”

Also on the card will be European super welterweight champion Sergej Dzindziruk, 27-0 (21), who will defend his title against Frenchman Hussein Bayram, 17-1 (9).

The event is promoted by Universum Box-Promotion. ZDF will televise live in Germany.
