Danny Green gets off the deck to win!

30.09.04 -By Tony Nobbs: WBC Interim Super Middleweight champion Danny Green got of the deck in the second round to score a cut eye stoppage of Argentina’s Omar Gonzales at 2.03 of the fifth in a non title affair at the Panthers in Penrith, West Sydney on Wednesday night.

The only knockdown in the fight was from a right hand as Gonzales fired back following a Green mini barrage. Green was up quickly and soon back on top. As always, Green attacked constantly throughout the entire contest.

The Argentine was over powered for most of the fight but gave a solid account of himself apart from the knockdown he momentarily stunned the Aussie in the first- and understandably protested when the doctor ruled a cut over the right eye enough to stop proceedings.

Green now has a tougher assignment scheduled-a December defence in his hometown of Perth against Dane Mikkel Kessler.

Victorian Daniel “Porky” Lovett looks one to watch after he scored an impressive twelve round stoppage of Uraguay’s Enrique Campos, retaining his IBF Pan Pacific Super Middleweight belt. Trained by the very astute Jimmy Slatter and assisted by Jim’s brother Brian, the 21 year old Lovett was in command from the opening round and gradually dismantled the visitor. Lovett worked off the jab, has a neat right hand and worked the body in the mold of Lester Ellis/Shannan Taylor. Lovett set a good pace through out, hurting Campos more than once and finished the fight in style scoring two knockdowns before the referee stopped it with 41 seconds left on the clock. “Porky” has a good team behind him-managed by Stuart Duncan- and if taken along slowly could become one of Australia’s better prospects.

Josh Clenshaw won a unanimous ten round decision over sub Tim Minnis at Super Middleweight. Minnis, who throws plenty, is a better fighter than his 2-4 slate going in indicates and gave the former Australian champion Clemshaw a few problems but was generally out worked and out thought.

PABA Junior Lightweight champ Benny Cruz scored a unanimous verdict over Agentine Ariel Burgos over eight. The visitor took the opening two heats but was out bustled from the third and by the end of the bout was a clearly beaten fighter.

Adam Vella won a four round UD over fellow novice Brad Ryan, super middleweights. Vella looks a useful performer.

In the show opener the fancied Roger Izon scored a four round TKO over Oscar Talemarra. Roger, twice an Australian Heavyweight title challenger and a younger brother of David, was dropped in the third but fortunately Oscar, now 0-3, had little fitness and he was able to produce a one punch ending with the right hand in the final round.
