WSB: USA Knockouts took on Argentina Condors (3-2)
The USA Knockouts – the Franchise representing the United States in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) – kicked off its season at home with a bang by defeating the Argentina Condors 3-2 on Friday November 22, 2013 at the Miccosukee Casino and Gaming of Miami, Florida.
In a jammed packed venue, the Light Flyweight (46-49kg) Anthony Chacon, currently ranked #6 in the AIBA World Ranking upset Argentina when he won the first fight of the night against Patrick Lourenco of Brazil, finalist at the AIBA World Boxing Championships Almaty 2013.
The crowd, which was already warmed up was eager to cheer for their team, but continued to show that “Boxing is a Latino passion” in Miami when Argentinian Bantamweight (56kg) Ezequiel Melian (3-1 in his WSB career), went on to win over Steven “Scooter” Fulton from the Knockouts and still won polite applause from the fans. Final scores were 45:48, 45:49, 46:49.
Next up and full of excitement was the fight between Light Welterweights (64kg) Jose Luis Romero Alday Jr. and 2013 Continental Silver Medalist from the Argentina Condors, Alberto Palmetta who was defeated by the young Alday Jr. in a stunning and highly competitive bout.
The 4th and last official fight of the night, between Middleweights (75kg) Caleb Plant from the USA Knockouts and Thomas Reynoso from the Argentina Condors, ended up with a unanimous decision for Plant 50:44, 50:44, 50:44.
“Today, I am satisfied with the team because we won. In sports, the final goal is always to win and today we reached that goal”, said Pedro Roque, Head Coach of the USA Knockouts.
“The team is coming together, we have a mix of talented athletes. It is a very strong international team, but we have to take one match at a time. We have to use our strategy to line up well against all of our opponents to ultimately reach the Playoffs”, said USA Knockouts General Manager and USA Boxing Executive Director, Mr. Anthony Bartkowski.
