Weights from Rostock, Germany
Enzo Maccarinelli, challenger for the WBO World Light-Heavyweight title, weighed in at 12st 6lbs (174lbs), the same as Champion Juergen Braehmer who came in at 12st 6lbs (174lbs).
Maccarinelli aims to create history and become Wales’ first ever two weight world champion at the Stadthalle, in Rostock, Germany, tomorrow night, live and exclusive in the UK on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/HD 490 and Virgin Ch. 546).
The Welshman said, “It’s not only a massive night for me, but for Welsh sport as well. I can punch my way into the history books and become the nation’s first ever two weight world champion and to do it in Braehmer’s back yard would be an amazing achievement,”
“It’s not going to be an easy night by any means. Braehmer’s a tough operator and a quality champion, but I’ve got a better chance than most people of beating him. The crowd will be hostile, but that’s going to work in my favour. The more they jeer me the more I’ll rise to the occasion,”
“I’ve worked hard with my trainer Gary Lockett and I’ve had no problems in the build up so now it’s down to me to do the business on the night. I’ve got the punch that could take him out and I’ve certainly go the boxing skill and experience to go with it,”
“It’s a massive gamble going over to Germany, but I’m supremely confident and ready to win the title and bring it back to Wales.”
On the undercard Maccarinelli is joined fellow countrymen Lewis Rees and Liam Williams.
Welterweight Rees weighed in at 10st 1lb (141lbs) for his eight-round contest against Renaldo Garrido 10st 2lbs (142lbs).
Light-middleweight Williams came in at 11st 1lb (155lbs) for his eight-round contest against Yuri Pompilio 10st 13½lbs (153½lbs)
