WBO Will Honor Professional And Amateur Puerto Rican Boxing Prospects
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- To motivate young fighters coming up in this sport, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) will award several Puerto Rican prospects of the professional and amateur boxing in an activity that will take place in the final days of January, 2014.
WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel said that in the event this entity will honor the three main professional and amateur boxers in Puerto Rico right now. Valcarcel added that this activity will be institutionalized to be held every year.
“We want motivate young prospects in Puerto Rico and so we will do this first activity in 2014 and follow it to work every year for the new prospects year by year”, said Valcarcel, who announced that the awarded boxers will get a cash prize and other gifts.
Otherwise, Valcarcel emphasized that the three prospects will be chosen in voting by a panel of veteran journalists of the leading media in Puerto Rico. Each journalist will select three of these young boxers and then the three athletes with most votes will be those who will attend the awards event.
The 12 Puerto Rican boxing fighters on the ballot (undefeated prospects with 10 bouts or less) are Angel Acosta (5-0, 5 KOs), Charlie Clemente ( 5-0, 3 KOs), Prichard Colon (5-0 , 5 KOs), Emmanuel de Jesus (9-0, 6 KOs), Edgardo Lopez (8-0-1 , 4 KOs), Alberto Machado (5-0, 3 KOs), Jose Martinez (10-0 , 7 KOs), Edwin Rodriguez (5-0, 4 KOs), Emmanuel Rodriguez (8-0, 5 KOs), Daniel Rosario ( 7-0, 6 KOs), John Karl Sosa (8-0, 6 KOs) and Felix Verdejo (9-0, 6 KOs).
