WBF Title Action In South Africa December 16
The vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Light Flyweight title will be on the line when compatriots Mfundo Gwayana and Thabiso Moorosi clash on Monday December 16 on a show promoted by Xaba Promotions in East London, South Africa.
Southpaw Gwayana (29) brings a professional record of 17-6-3 (9), and is the reigning South African national champion. He turned pro at only 15 in 1999, and lost two challenges for the S.A. championship in 2005 and 2007 before finally winning the crown in November 2007.
After four successful defenses he lost the title in 2010, but regained it in his latest outing, this past October, when he defeated Bongani Silila by technical decision. Going for the WBF title will be his first crack at title above domestic level.
Against Moorosi, 7-3-2 (5), Gwayana will be the favorite going in, but the 26-year old from Fiksburg has shown good form lately and is undefeated since January 2010. Styles make fights, and the shows promoter is expecting an action-packed affair between two hungry and determined fighters.
Also on the card will be a WBF Intercontinental championship fight at Bantamweight, with local man Onela Quongwana (10-1, 5 KOs) going for the vacant title against an opponent still to be confirmed.
