WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS
December 24, 2013 – Mexico City.
From the office of WBC President Dr. José Sulaimán:
The following is one of the weekly “Hook to the Liver” columns that have been published in El Universal every Sunday for the last five years and written by WBC President Jose Sulaiman.
This column was written by his children – Pepe, Lucy, Hector, Fernando, Mauricio, and Claudia – while he recovers from surgery. From December 22, translated from Spanish:
HOOK TO THE LIVER
Merry Christmas! Let’s have a great 2014 and bury all the hatchets
This Hook to the Liver, written during the Christmas holiday, is especially dedicated with the absolute wishes from our dear father for all to receive the warmest personal regards, feelings of friendship and gratitude on his behalf as well as from all of us in the Sulaiman family.
Mom, all six kids with our couples, and 14 grandchildren will gather together to be with our dear Don Jose to celebrate Christmas and now, more than ever, we have found the true meaning and the original reason for these festivities, which is to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to get closer to God and unite our prayers to thank our Lord who has saved our father and we can be with him and enjoy him for years to come.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again sincerely thank all those who joined our prayers, who have expressed their concern and friendship throughout this journey, which at times feels never-ending.
Our father asked us to write to celebrate all those who have shown their care and friendship, to his loved ones, family and friends, who have provided him the motivation, support, hope and will to continue working as hard as ever to get better from the so many different complications suffered after his open heart surgery. He wishes all to find the time to calmly meditate and reflect upon our deeds to find internal peace and to all those suffering from any complication, whatever might be, to get the strength to move forward and succeed.
2014 is expected to be a great year for boxing. However, there are some delicate and unfortunate situations which threaten the well-being of our beloved sport and could cause a terrible recession if not attended properly. We all hope that those disputes between parties will be able to be worked out with good faith, will and common sense in order to have our sport continue to rise and to give the fans those great fights that they are all expecting to see this coming year.
With all our love, respect, and sincere gratitude, Jose Sulaiman and family wish you a Merry Christmas and may the magic of times come into your hearts.
