The office of the Mayor of Miami sent out the following press release:

City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado to Present Key to the City to Jose Sulaiman Chagnon

Mayor Tomas Regalado will welcome the President of World Boxing Council, Jose Sulaiman Chagnon on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at an official ceremony where the Key to the City will be presented to President Sulaiman Chagnon.

“President Sulaiman’s work as WBC’s leader is admirable. He has always worked to humanize the sport and this represents another success for a man who has been instrumental in the rise of many professional boxing greats,” said Mayor Regalado.

Sulaiman who is 82 years old, has presided over the WBC since December 5, 1975. He was inducted into the International Hall of Fame of Canastota, NY on June 10, 2006.

“I have dedicated over 60 years of my life to the sport of boxing. I have always been very proud of my Mexican and Latin American nationality. It is an extraordinary privilege to receive such an honorable distinction. I deeply appreciate the gesture of Mr. Tomas Regalado, Mayor of the beautiful and famous City of Miami,” said Sulaiman Chagnon.
