Troy James ready For Biggest Fight Of His Career
By Jon Sidaway, UKO Boxing – Troy ‘Terrifying’ James, admits his showdown with Chris Male for a shot at the British Super Featherweight Title is the biggest fight of his career.
Coventry-born James (14-2-1) takes on his fellow Midlander, Cradley’s Male (12-1), at The Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill – Dudley, on Saturday, 14th September. The Eliminator status means that the victor will move up the BBBoC rankings with a view to earning either a Final Eliminator or mandatory shot at the prestigious Lonsdale strap.
Current British Super Featherweight Champion, Gary Buckland (27-2), puts his title on the line against Liverpool’s, Stephen ‘Swifty’ Smith (16-1), in Cardiff on August 17th with the winner likely to defend against the victor of James or Male later in the year.
It’s a big night for the 29 year-old who, in turn, is expecting an explosive encounter.
“This is most definitely the biggest fight of my career so far,” he told www.uko-boxing.com “If I don’t win, I can forget about fighting for a British title.
“I’m an all action fighter, regardless of it being a four round fight or a title eliminator.
“I’ll be attacking this fight, but no question I have to be on my toes. There’ll be fireworks and plenty of non-stop action all the way through.”
James goes into the contest in good form. He has been victorious in his last two bouts against Slovakian, Ivan Godor in May and June’s outing against the late Billy Smith, who tragically committed suicide recently.
With the fight taking place in Male’s backyard, James is expecting an electric atmosphere outside the ring to match the fireworks in it.
“I’m expecting a loud atmosphere, so I’m looking forward to silencing the home support,” he continued. “The noise will spur me on. I’m feeling confident and a lot stronger and fitter after an inactive couple of years.
“I’ve given up work and spent more time in the gym, so training wise I’ve stayed alert and focused, as well as a couple of close fights to tick me over. It’s perfect preparation going into this fight.”
Dudley’s undefeated light-middleweight, Kyle Spencer (6-0), Stourbridge’s former Midlands Area Welterweight Champion, Steven Pearce (7-2), and Gornal prospect Lance Brooks (2-0) all feature on the undercard of One Promotions’ Boxing Dinner Show.
Tickets are priced at £55 to include a three-course meal and VIP Ringside tables (of ten) are available at £100 per person to include a three-course meal and complimentary bottles of wine. British Lightweight Champion, Martin Gethin, and former British Welterweight Champion, Young Mutley, will both be present in VIP.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 07581 131 745.
